Which Crossfit Shoes Should I buy

Crossfit is a type of training that requires a lot of thought in a shoe picking. It is a sector that combines multiple fields of exercise and a chase up for the ultimate shoe for best results and body protection simultaneously.

As a fitness admirer, instructor and athlete that practices Crossfit training on a regular basis I have been fishing for the right shoe to fulfill my needs.

However, with all my experience and life long training and understanding, I had no clue as to what characteristics I should be looking for in a Crossfit shoe. As I’m sure many are at the same crossroad as I was just a few months ago let me share with you some information regarding what you should be looking for in your first or next Crossfit shoe

What to look for in a Crossfit shoe

Crossfit shoe should be a shoe that will combine strength, durability, be breathable, light-weighted, stable (proper surface grip), comfy, good for short runnings (say up to 3 miles) and yes… pretty as well cause at the end of the day we train with our minds too and feeling good about ourselves is highly recommended.

I have tried out so far 3 types of shoes, one of Reebok brand and 2 of Nike. In order to get the real sense of them I have trained multiple Crossfit workouts (WODs) with each and made sure that the variety of workouts will be included in every shoe trail to have an objective reflective all in all best quality shoe for CrossFit purposes.

So all in all was great fun. All 3 designs are pretty awesome. Be that as it may, every design is a bit more ideal for a different type of person, meaning, it depends on personal taste, perforation, foot structure, former injuries if exist etc.

Beginners Crossfit Shoes Tip

First things first, check if Crossfit is indeed right for you. Workout light weights with the shoes you already have to get the sense of this type of exercise. Crossfit shoes are pretty specific so might be a waste of money to buy shoe’s that you’ll find yourself storing in your closet if you don’t like the actual train.

I found that I really loved the whole Crossfit training so went on my “journey of holy trinity” as I like to call it. My natural tendency as an athlete was mostly Nike until I started teaching studio aerobic classes and found amazing Reebok studio high ankle shoes. It made me realize that constant doubt and an open mind are a must in order to dynamically progress. progress lays in dynamics and dynamics is the understanding of what is good for us here and now. So do not be afraid to change when the fact justifies it.

The shoes I chose to try out are the Reebok Nano 9, The Nike Metcon 5, and the Nike Metcon Flyknit. Again, all of whom are great shoes with qualities to specify and are important to understand prior purchase.

So here we go with my honest review of three of the best Crossfit shoes available on the market:

Reebok Nano 9

Reebok Nano 9 – Consider buying this shoe for Crossfit

Da bomb! Lovely and loveable shoe. Excellent outer sole, great for runs, and very breathable. I felt comfortable in it despite one obvious fact – this shoe can feel a bit odd for narrow feet as the front sole structure’s relatively wide. Nonetheless, my feet sit perfectly stable in it thanks to clever technology. As the shoe is placed very steady on the feet, the wide front structure (or as they like to call it “the toe box”) can get a bit weird sense as sometimes during workout felt to me as my toes are wondering somewhere in space. a sense that disappeared on my third train with it.

As I got used to its unique structure, oh my god this shoe became so comfortable I couldn’t even imagine!!! my own personal very narrow feet felt totally at home in it. I also know from a direct source that this shoe is mega comfy for wide feet owners alike. Win win situation.

On top of this pop, it is ultra-breathable thanks to its new Flexweaveupper material, very soft and cushiony to a point where you ask yourself “are my feet in a workout at all”? almost zero slippery as owns Metasplit technology width and length of the outer sole, wonderful for the Crossfit train running as go gentle on our knees, ankle, and back due to respectable shock absorbance. It is a very light shoe, very pretty (with the old Reebok logo – thumbs up) and the shoe laces are tied once and stay that way (in oppose to the Metcon 5…).

Great shoe. Well done Reebok. You have outdone yourself with Nano 9. In my opinion, a lot of thought was invested in this shoe and it is felt throughout the train.

Nike Metcon 5

The “sharp shoe” as I like to call it. The Metcon 5 felt to me like a sister from another mister from the very first moment. so natural that I have bought the wrong size and went back to the shop to get a bigger size the morning after.

It is a comfortable shoe even in the wrong size (hehe). It is pretty awesome for standard feet and for relatively narrow ones as the shoe hugs you from heel to toe in a steady grip but nonetheless enables place for expanding of feet through the high temperatures during a workout.

It is not the most breathable shoe and it is not so comfortable for running in my opinion. I would describe it as fairly ok for short distance running and after advising others I understood that this is a consensus: they all love it however loved it less when running was involved. So thumb pretty much down for the running section.

So what is their strength? super stable, cushioned just about enough for weightlifting, jumping of any height and sort and owns a flex sole for a vast range of exercises during train. They are hottie pretty as has sharp edge design and you can find them in endless colors which makes it fun fun fun and chic.

oh and one last thing, the shoelaces… too slippery and annoying so need a couple of lace tie for safety. Can I put Nano 9 shoelaces in my Metcon, please? no? grrrr… but don’t worry Metcon I still love you.

Nike Metcon Flyknit

Maybe Nike Metcon Flyknit will be your shoe for Crossfit

The Metcon Flyknit is what I like to call the slimmer Sissi of Metcon 5 same Missi. she’s slim, light, and possesses a flexible somewhat sole with more cushioning in the toe box area, but just a bit.

So this state of the art is a more settled Crossfit training shoe. It is better for running than the Metcon 5 but not from the Nano 9 in any mean. my running champ is Nano 9 due to a cushiony sole and flexible outer sole that enable more healthy movement of the foot. The Flyknit however is a more settled than them both. It is a breathable shoe, steady, ultra sexy but not on the account of good protection. It is a good shoe.

Oooh, and it has a very distinctive perk – a higher ankle structure made to protect the ankle for those of us who has the ankle injury tendency. It is kind of a semi high ankle workout shoe, made you feel safe in vast move range and think less of what’s going on down there-more up here. So if that’s the case I think you might have found D shoe for you, with the following exemption :

It. Is. A. Rather. Slim. Shoe.

I have narrow feet so for me it feels pretty much like a glove, but only after taking one size bigger than what I usually take. Bare in mind it is rather normal with workout shoes to avoid pressure so there’s there.

The big size is not really felt in that beauty as the high ankle structure compensates for it with extra stability. My feet are extremely stable in it but I do recommend the size consideration due to especially slim Crossfit shoe.

Nike did a marvellous thing with that one as they added extra durable overlays to protects high-wear areas that allow you to climb a rope, and grind your toes on the floor without the concern of shoe wear and tear. another thumb up for Flyknit.

It is made of breathable fabric, comfortable and feels minimal (which I fond like wearing a sock to train). the sole I think is the exact same width as the Metcon 5, however, as much as I enjoy training with them I usually end up with a pinky toe unexplained discomfort. Had that in my Nike free shoes as well. mystery? perhaps … Narrow shape? probable… a deal breaker? Naaaa…

This shoe is a success. I would wear it with a dress and you should too!

And for the drums

What can I say ladies and gents. That was a tough cookie as all 3 designs are entitled to the “superb”. I train with all 3 on a weekly basis and enjoy the manifestation of my abilities with each and every.

However, I enjoyed most the Reebok Nano 9. Didn’t think I would in the beginning but found that this “love at third sight” can be a very solid healthy kinda funky love, just like the Nano 9. It has all the requirements needed in a Crossfit shoe and received my highest score in the total ranking as a functional shoe for multiple departments.

Well done Reebok, you have managed to take my breath away with a modest looking top of the pop old school design, hot and heavy professional comfy shoe for champs. Keep it up!

And for those who came this far, feel free to leave us a comment. We would love to hear how was YOUR experience.

In the meantime keep training, smile, enjoy life (more every day), and until next time we meet here be the best version of yourself.

  • Definitely a helpful guide that helped me a lot in choosing the perfect fit for me. You can easily get lost in an abundance of models, however this guide narrows the selection down and helps you focus.
